Tree Trimming & Pruning

Tree Trimming & Pruning Cairns

Most people call it tree lopping. We call it pruning done properly. In Far North Queensland trees grow fast, so the right cut in the right place saves you money and keeps your tree strong through the wet season.

What we prune for
Deadwooding

Removing dead and dying limbs that could drop onto people, cars or roofs.

Roof and gutter clearance

Lifting branches off the house to stop rubbing, leaf build-up and pest access.

Crown lifting

Raising the lower canopy over driveways, paths and outdoor areas.

Selective reduction

Shortening chosen branches back to growth points so the tree keeps its natural shape.

Formative pruning

Shaping young trees early so they grow into strong, well-balanced adults.

Questions we get asked

Tree Trimming & Pruning FAQs

What is the difference between pruning and lopping?

Pruning removes specific branches at proper pruning points for a clear purpose. Inappropriate lopping cuts indiscriminately and leaves stubs, which can trigger weak, fast regrowth and decay.

How often should Cairns trees be pruned?

It depends on species and location, but many trees near homes benefit from a check every 12 to 24 months. Fast growers near roofs may need it yearly.

Should I prune before cyclone season?

Pruning can deal with specific risks such as dead limbs, cracks and branches over the house. No pruning makes a tree cyclone-proof, and blanket thinning can do more harm than good, so we target what matters.

Can you prune branches overhanging from my neighbour's tree?

In many cases, yes. For extensive work we recommend written agreement from your neighbour first, and we are happy to talk it through with both of you.

How it works

Our process

  1. Look first

We assess species, health, structure and what you want to achieve before a single cut.

  2. Agree the outcome

You get a clear scope: which branches, how much, and why.

  3. Climb and cut

Our climbers work to the branch collar, following AS 4373 Pruning of Amenity Trees where it applies.

  4. Tidy finish

Everything chipped and cleared, with free mulch left behind if you want it.

Highly recommend James and his team at Coral Coast Tree Care doing an amazing job pruning my huge river cherry tree. From the first consult and throughout the job, James checked in with me that I was happy with the work. His team had to rappel up the big tree to get to the big branches. Nothing was broken and everything landed exactly where it was meant to. From start to finish it was easy, his team were friendly, and the cleanup was done with pride.
